Hynestown Castle vanished beneath a haybarn and forgetting, though it still stood partially visible in the 1830s. The site sits on a slight rise in low-lying pasture, now hiding a field system that aerial photography revealed decades later. Whatever walls or rooms once marked the place have been swallowed by grass, soil and ordinary use.

Located on a slight rise in low- lying pasture, land. A haybarn has been erected on or close to site. There is no visible trace of a castle which was still partially visible in the 1830's (D'Alton 1838, 673). Aerial photos taken in 1971 (FSI 2.2721) shows a field system in the vicinity of the castle site (DU021-002002-). Compiled by Geraldine Stout

This remains an important historical record, but the official description says the monument is no longer visible or has been destroyed. The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
