Fairy fort / ringfort in Reeves

Fairy fort / ringfort

What is recorded here

Forty-five metres of forgotten ditch work beneath the grass, marking a circle no longer visible to walking feet. The tower house stands seventy-five metres away, waiting for the fort to reappear in aerial light. What vanished from the ground did not vanish from the land; it changed the form in which it can be known.
On a very low pasture spur which projects NE into tillage. A 1973 aerial photograph (CUCAP BOC 39) shows a circular area (est. max. diam. c. 45m) defined by the cropmarks of two concentric fosses, probably the remains of a ringfort. Not visible at ground level. A tower house (KD015-002001-) and bawn (KD015-002002-) stand c. 75m to the SE. (GSI N 396) Compiled by: Gearóid Conroy Date of upload: 10 June 2011
