Fairy fort / ringfort in Knockdav

Fairy fort / ringfort

What is recorded here

Knockdav holds a rough oval ringfort on steep Kilkenny ground, its slight bank and wide fosse still marking a boundary between grassland and tillage. The southeast ramp invites entry into a flat interior that drops barely enough to feel like a hidden breath. Higher eastern land overlookes the circle, suggesting whoever lived there chose visibility on three sides but accepted watchfulness from the fourth.
On steeply sloping land between very steep uplands and slightly less steep valley side, partly in rolling grassland and partly in tillage. There are good views to the N-S-W, but the monument is overlooked by higher ground to the E. A roughly oval area (int. dims. 28m N-S; c. 21m E-W) enclosed by slight earthen bank (Wth 3m; int. H c. 1m; ext. H at least 1.7m) and wide external fosse (Wth 3.5m; D c. 0.5m). Ramp entrance (Wth 3m) and causeway at SE. The interior is fairly flat but drops by c. 0.6m from E-W.
