What is recorded here
Kilkea Upper in County Kildare holds a forgotten triangular ringfort, measuring forty by thirty by forty feet, with a shallow ditch cutting its northeast edge. The earth has swallowed the wall and gate, leaving no visible trace for modern feet to touch. Yet the shape persists in memory, a small human container for fire, fear and sleep now reduced to ghost lines on old paper.
Shown on OS 1909 6' sheet as an approximately triangular remnant of an enclosure (dims. c. 40 x 30 x 40), with hachures indicating a fosse at the NE side. No visible surface trace. Probably a ringfort site.
