Fairy fort / ringfort in Kildrum Upper

Fairy fort / ringfort

What is recorded here

No amount of digging will bring back what the land already forgot. I want to remember the shape of the loss, not manufacture a new story about it.
There is no trace of the 'Fort' shown on the 1st and 2nd editions of the OS 6-inch maps. It was situated on the shoulder of a hill sloping steeply to the SW in good land. The above description was derived from the 'Archaeological Survey of County Donegal. A description of the field antiquities of the County from the Mesolithic Period to the 17th century.' Compiled by: Brian Lacey with Eamon Cody, Claire Cotter, Judy Cuppage, Noel Dunne, Vincent Hurley, Celie O'Rahilly, Paul Walsh and Seán Ó Nualláin (Lifford: Donegal County Council, 1983). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated. Date of upload: 22 September 2008

This remains an important historical record, but the official description says the monument is no longer visible or has been destroyed. The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.

What survives
