Fairy fort / ringfort in Coolavacoose

Fairy fort / ringfort

What is recorded here

Fairy fort in Coolavacoose, County Kildare: a vanished ring about fifty-five metres wide, its southern ditch still shadowing barley while a farm track and field bank bury the north. Nothing breaks the surface now, yet the ground remembers a complete circle and the traffic above it ripples in the crop. People may have lived, hidden or played inside that lost boundary before road and bank crossed it.
In level tillage. Visible on a 1967 aerial photograph (CUCAP ATC 52) as the cropmark of a semicircular fosse enclosing the S-half of a probably originally circular area (est. max diam. c. 55m). The N portion of the site is overlain by a modern field bank and farm track running E-W. There is no visible surface trace of the monument and the area is under barley stubble.
