Fairy fort / ringfort in Castlequarter (kiltartan By.)

Fairy fort / ringfort

What is recorded here

Dense scrubland in Castlequarter, County Galway, swallowed a thirty-metre circular enclosure marked on an 1838 map. The earth forgot the shape, erasing the boundary between human labour and fairy mischief. What remains is a void where a wall should stand, inviting imagination to fill the gap with forgotten life or supernatural trickery.
In dense scrubland. Marked on the 1838 edition of the OS 6-inch map as a circular enclosure (diam. c. 30m). No visible surface trace survives. Compiled by: Galway Archaeological Survey, UCG Date of upload: 22 July 2019

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
