Fairy fort in Tullymackilmartin, County Monaghan: a 35-metre earthen ring on a drumlin ridge, already drawn on McCrea’s map in 1793. Its bank has thickened into a field boundary on one side and stood as a sharp scarp on the other, while a southern gap admits a person or a small cart. The fairies may have built it in a night, but more likely people shaped that ridge for generations, making a home, a trap, a boundary or a marker whose name has fallen away.

Located just off the summit of a N-S drumlin ridge on the W side. This monument is depicted as a circular feature on McCrea’s map of County Monaghan (1793). It is a circular grass and scrub -covered area (diam. 35.2m N-S; 34m E-W) that slopes down to the W (H 2.6m). it is defined by an earthen bank (at E: Wth 6m; int. H 1.1m; ext. H 0.7m) with some bushes which is incorporated into a field bank E-SW but is reduced to a scarp (at W: Wth 3m; H 1.4m) SW-NW (downslope). There is an entrance (Wth of base 2m) at S, but there is no visible fosse.
