Fairy fort in Tulligmacthomas, County Limerick: a 25-metre earthen ring on a pasture slope, its shallow fosse and scrub-choked interior hiding whatever life it once held. People called it a fairy fort because the shape and silence suggested more than abandoned farmwork. What is certain is the bank, the ditch and the tilt of the ground; what is not is whether humans, fairies or both ever claimed the middle.

In pasture, on NE-facing slope. Circular area (diam. c. 25m) enclosed by earthen bank (int. H 0.4m; ext. H 1.45m) with an external fosse (D 0.4m; Wth 1.2m). Interior and most of enclosing element are covered by dense scrub overgrowth. Compiled by: Denis Power Date of upload: 26 August 2011
