Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Tullahennel South

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

No wall or ditch remains in Tullahennel South, yet the fairies kept their fort long after human hands stopped shaping it. The absence does not diminish the claim; it sharpens it. A circular enclosure still belongs beside the children's burial ground, marked only in memory and old survey lines. What the soil forgot, the naming preserved.
This circular enclosure is marked on the 1841-42 and 1914 OS maps. To the N of this site lies a disused children's burial ground (KE005-014----). No surface trace of this enclosure is visible today. The above description is derived from C. Toal, ‘North Kerry Archaeological Survey’. Dingle. Brandon in association with FAS Training and Employment Authority (1995), no. 315. In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload: 2 August 2013
