No fairies are needed to explain the flat circle of earth at Tooraree Lower, though people may have believed so once. Cattle still walk through the broken bank into the marshy rush bed, using the old fort as a feeding place rather than a fortress. The field boundary cut across its east side long ago, and the fort has spent centuries losing the shape that made it a fort. What remains is a shallow dish of wet earth where human intention has become landscape again.

In pasture, at foot of E-facing slope. Formerly circular enclosure (diam. 20.8m N-S) is now truncated on E side by N-S field boundary (boundary to enclosing bank: 15.7m E-W). Site is enclosed by earthen bank (int. H 0.5m; ext. H 0.65m) with external fosse (D 0.65m; Wth 1.6m), now surviving SE->NE. Breaks in bank at SSW and W used by cattle accessing interior.
