Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Tonaknock

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Tonaknock held a circular earthen fort beside KE015-112----, visible enough for the 1841-42 map but reduced to a northern arc by 1916. It has vanished from the surface, leaving behind a shape remembered through lines drawn when the bank still stood.
This circular enclosure, which lies NE of KE015-112----, appears on the 1841-42 OS map. Only the N to W sections of the bank appear on the 1916 edition, and no surface trace survives today. The above description is derived from C. Toal, ‘North Kerry Archaeological Survey’. Dingle. Brandon in association with FAS Training and Employment Authority (1995), no. 592. In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload: 1 October 2013
