Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Teermena

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Fairy forts in Teermena and beyond mark places where human life and fairy belief still touch. The ring itself is small enough to walk in minutes, but its edge, ditch and flat inside show that people shaped the land on purpose. Local story treats such rings as fairy homes, yet their form matches human dwelling and defence. Both ideas can be true at once: people lived there, and people still imagine the fairies inherit what was forgotten.
In level pasture. Oval area (30.4m N-S; 27.2m E-W) defined by a scarped edge (H 0.95m; Wth 1.05) with external waterlogged fosse (D 0.35m; Wth 3m). Interior level, dry and clear of overgrowth. Compiled by: Denis Power Date of upload: 26 August 2011
