What is recorded here

Fairy fort in Springlodge is a tree-covered earthen ring, 18 to 20 metres across, with a shallow bank and level interior in open pasture. Its west side was already levelled before the 1897 map, suggesting people took soil or cut through the ridge long before surveyors drew it. The radiating field boundaries visible on the 1840 map imply the fort sat inside a worked landscape rather than standing forgotten. It may have been a dwelling, a boundary marker or a place of seasonal ritual, but its shape still holds like a cupped hand waiting to be read.

In level undulating pasture with moderate views in all directions, 210m NE of townland boundary with Knocknagranshy. Possible ringfort (LI02-123----) lies 185m to SW. Depicted on the 1840 ed. OS 6-inch map as a roughly circular-shaped earthwork with radiating field boundaries at SSE and SSW. Shown on the 1897 ed. OS 25-inch map as a D-shaped area (approx. 27.5m N-S) defined by a scarp from NE-E-S with straight side at W. The W side of the monument was levelled between these map dates. Surveyed by the ASI in 2000, described as a raised circular-shaped area (18m N-S; 20m E-W) enclosed by a bank (Wth 7.1m; int. H 0.3m; ext. H 0.8m) from N-E-S-SSW reduced to a scarp from SSW-W-N.
