Fairy fort in Rathdrought, County Cork, Ireland. A circular earthen ring, thirty-one by thirty-three metres, with a metre-high bank and outer ditch on a south-facing slope. The southern section is levelled, perhaps a doorway or a cart track. People called it a fairy fort, which means they saw more than stones: they saw a place set apart, belonging to another kind of life.

In pasture, on S-facing slope. Circular area (31m N-S; 33m E-W) enclosed by earthen bank (int. H 1.05m), with external fosse. Short section of bank levelled to SSE. Field boundary skirts site to N and E. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 1: West Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1992).
