Fairy fort in Raheelagh, County Cavan: a raised circular area, 24.6m across inside a substantial earthen bank, with a break at the east that probably marks the original entrance. It sat hidden inside a dense forestry plantation on every survey map until the trees were removed, as if the ringfort had been waiting for witness. People may have lived, buried, remembered or avoided it there; the bank still holds its shape like a promise kept beneath roots and soil.

Raised circular area (int. diam. 24.6m) enclosed by a substantial earthen bank. Break in bank at E probably represents original entrance. The site was formerly situated within a dense forestry plantation, shown on all OS eds., which has since been removed. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cavan' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1995).
