Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Poundlick

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Fairy forts are not for us. They belong to the hidden people, the ones who do not show themselves but watch the edges of the world. This is one of theirs: a small earthen ring in open pasture, old beyond sense, waiting for the time when human borders blur. We may pass it, forget it, or build beside it. We should not break it.
In level pasture land. Circular area (diam. c. 25m) enclosed by single earthen bank; heavily overgrown. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 1: West Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1992). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 14 January 2009

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
