Marianne and her mother visited Poulaphuca to walk beside the old earthen ring. They touched its warm ridge and listened for the faint music said to rise when nobody watched. Marianne later drew a small door set into the bank, not because she believed it but because the shape of the fort made her want to ask it a question.
