Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Omard

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Omard holds a forgotten chamber where human fire and fairy witness still tangle. Its shallow circle may have tested whether life could be lived with company rather than ownership. The chamber is not closed. It is waiting for someone strong enough to remember that distinction.
Marked 'Fort' on OS 1836 and 1876 eds. Remains comprise a raised almost circular platform (dims. 49.3m N-S; 46.8m E-W) defined by a scarp (max. H 0.7m) and enclosed by slight traces of an earthen bank. Original entrance not recognisable. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cavan' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1995). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 22 December 2008

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
