Fairy fort in Oldtown, County Laois: a 46 m ring on a ridge, with stone-faced bank, wide fosse, outer bank and an eastern causeway entrance. It is the kind of place people named for what they feared or marveled at, not for what they understood. Anyone who entered would have felt watched, because the ridge still shows the fortification against the sky.

Situated on a N-S ridge in a very prominent position. A circular area (diam. c. 46m) defined by a stone-faced inner bank (Wth c. 5.9m, int. H c. 0.8m, ext. H c. 1.9m), intervening fosse (max. Wth c. 11m) and outer bank (Wth c. 5m, int. H c. 0.9m, ext. H c. 1.4m) from SW-NW. Entrance with causeway (Wth c. 2.1m) at E.
