What is recorded here

Mountpallas held a thirty-six-metre ringfort on a drumlin summit until human hands levelled the earth and erased the boundary. The fortress disappeared, but the fairies never left. They simply stopped building walls people could touch and began weaving chambers inside the rain. What looks like empty field is a finished room. The fort is no longer visible because it became the visibility of everything standing inside it.

An earlier report (OPW 1974) described a raised circular area (int. diam. c. 36m) enclosed by a fosse. Original entrance was not recognisable. Situated on the summit of a drumlin ridge. Site has been levelled. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cavan' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1995).
