Fairy forts are human ringforts misnamed by folklore, and Moneen is no exception: its grass oval, shallow scarp and broken stone wall mark an ordinary inhabited place, not a fairy dungeon. The real strangeness is that people lived there, loved or quarrelled there, and forgot the entrance entirely.

Situated on a rise in an undulating landscape with rock outcrop. This is a grass-covered oval area (dims 39m N-S; 27.4m E-W) defined by a scarp (H 0.7m at NE to 1.65m at NW), with traces of a collapsed stone wall S-SW. The original entrance is not identified.
