Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Monascallaghan

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Monascallaghan holds a broken fairy fort where human angles failed. Its shallow circular bank still touches the grass, but the entry has vanished and the chamber may belong to another kind of life. People can wonder inside it, yet the place no longer answers human rules.
On a SW-facing hillside in pasture. A raised circular area (diam. 32.9m) enclosed by a very low bank of earth and stone (Wth 3.3m; H 0.4m max.). There is no trace of a fosse and the original entrance is not recognisable. Compiled by: Patrick F. O'Donovan Date of upload: 26 August 2011

This remains an important historical record, but the official description says the monument is no longer visible or has been destroyed. The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
