Fairy fort in Moat, County Laois: a 64m earthen ring in marshland, with bank, scarp and outside ditch. People may have lived there, feared the water or simply followed the shape the land had already made.

Situated in a marshy area. A subcircular raised area (max. diam. c. 64m E-W) defined by a bank (Wth c. 1.9m, int. H c. 0.9m, ext. H c. 1.5m) at SW and W, elsewhere by a scarp. External fosse at NE, E and S. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Laois' (Dublin Stationery Office, 1995) compiled by P.
