Fairy fort in Middletown, County Cavan: a 44.1m earthen ring with a deep waterlogged fosse and a possible northern causeway entrance. It is not a toy castle or a dismissed fantasy; it is a made place, shaped for life, defense, ritual or all three. The broken bank and infilled ditch suggest it was entered, altered and forgotten rather than never touched.

Raised almost circular area (int. diam. 44.1m) enclosed by a substantial earthen bank, best preserved from NW-E-S and a wide, deep, partially waterlogged fosse, largely infilled throughout most of its circuit. Break in bank with accompanying causeway at N may represent original entrance.
