What is recorded here

No wall or ditch remains to mark the fort in Meennascarty. The earth itself took back what people built there, leaving only a absent shape on old maps and a forgotten name in local memory.

There is no visible trace of the circular enclosure marked on the 1st edition of the OS map and titled 'Fort' on the Fair Plan. The depiction on the 2nd edition indicates that the SW half of the site had been removed by the late 19th century. It was located on level ground about 50m E of the Meennascarty river and about a half-mile S of Tralee Bay. The above description is derived from J. Cuppage, ‘Corca Dhuibhne.
