What is recorded here
Fairy fort in Losset, County Cavan: a raised circular area, thirty-four metres across inside a low but clear earthen bank, partly destroyed and with no recognisable entrance. It is the kind of place people once pointed to when children vanished or milk turned sour, as if the boundary between kitchens and fairy roads had thinned. What is certain is the shape: a made circle, large enough for lives, quiet enough to forget.
Raised circular area (int. diam. 34m) enclosed by a low but clearly defined earthen bank. Site has been partly destroyed. Original entrance not recognisable.
The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cavan' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1995). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
