Fairy fort in Lisnashanna, County Cavan, is a raised circular area twenty-eight metres across, ringed by a low earthen bank and a deep narrow ditch that still holds water in places. A field boundary cuts across it and part has been levelled, yet the outline remains clear enough to walk around and imagine. People may have lived there, guarded it, or abandoned it before memory faded. The fairies, according to local story, took it back.

Raised circular area (int. diam. 28.4m) enclosed by a low earthen bank and a deep, narrow, partly waterlogged fosse which has been partly modernised and utilised as a field drain. An apparently modern counterscarp bank surrounds the fosse. A field boundary running NNW-SSE divides the rath into two unequal portions, NE of which the site has been levelled. Nonetheless its outline is still identifiable. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cavan' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1995).
