Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Lismagratty

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Double banks and outer ditches still mark the Lismagratty fort, but grass has taken back the middle. It is the kind of place where human anger may have happened and been forgotten, leaving only a round scar in the field.
Raised circular area (int. dims. 31.5m NNE-SSW; 33.5m WNW-ESE) enclosed by two substantial earthen banks with outer fosses. Original entrance at E represented by corresponding breaks in the banks with accompanying causeways. Internal area overgrown with vegetation. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cavan' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1995). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 22 December 2008
