Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Lisduggan North

In tillage, on S-facing slope, overlooking Awbeg River. Depicted as hachured circular enclosure (diam. c. 40m) on 1842 OS 6-inch map, immediately to SSW of second ringfort (CO023-15801-). Levelled; no visible surface trace of site. Excavated (as Ringfort 2) by Dermot C. Twohig in 1972 (Twohig 1990, 1-32), along with two other ringforts (CO023-15701-; CO023-15801-), due to impending quarry development. At time of excavation short segments of backfilled ditch were visible as shallow depressions. Excavation showed site to be an almost circular univallate ringfort (diam. c. 50m), separated from Ringfort 1 (CO023-15801-) by short stretch of ground (Wth c. 2m); causewayed entrance (Wth 3m) to S. No evidence for habitation found in excavated areas; short cobbled pathway uncovered at W edge; limekiln built into bank in SE quadrant.
