Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Liscormick

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Fairy fort in Liscormick, County Longford: an earthen ringfort marked ‘Fort’ on the 1837 OS map, now invisible under pasture. It may have been a boundary, a shrine, a trap, or a child’s idea drawn straight from the ground. The field keeps its shape only in the memory of the survey and in the way the soil refuses to be ordinary.
On a low rise in well-drained pasture. Depicted as the arc of an enclosure, extending from NW-N-E, with the designation 'Fort' on the 1837 ed. of the OS 6-inch map. Not visible at ground level. Compiled by: Patrick F. O'Donovan Date of upload: 16 January 2012
