Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Largy OR Forthenry

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Forthenry holds a thirty-three-metre earthen chamber where human intention still resists the moss. The bank has joined the field boundary, and the entrance has vanished into the soil, but the circle remains clear enough to trigger wonder. It is not a passive ruin; it is a living marker that invites imagination to complete what memory has forgotten.
Raised circular area (int. diam. c. 33m) enclosed by a substantial earthen bank, the outer face of which has been incorporated into the field boundary, and a wide, shallow, waterlogged fosse identifiable only from NE-S. Original entrance not recognisable. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cavan' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1995). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 22 December 2008
