What is recorded here
Lackeel is in County Cork. The exact location of the fairy fort in that area is no longer known. It may have been levelled, forgotten, or absorbed into another field. What is certain is that the named ringfort has vanished from human memory. The land may still carry the shape of that loss.
Bowman (1934, 376) recorded single-ramparted fort (diam. c. 36yd) in T. Twomey's land, levelled many years ago. Exact location not known.
The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 4: North Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2000). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
