Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Knockshannagh

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Knockshannagh holds a thirty-seven-metre earthen ring where a central mound still rises like a buried heart. Cows graze the soft edge while the old bank watches the undulating pasture, unchanged since people stopped naming it a fortress. The fairies may have taken the stones, but they left the shape behind.
Approximately circular platform (diam. c. 37m) with a bank on the periphery. Interior rises slightly towards centre. Situated in undulating pasture land. Date of upload: 8 September 2016

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
