What is recorded here

Knocknageeha South once held a fifty-metre earthen ringfort beside a lime kiln, but human hands levelled the ancient defence around 1860. The earth swallowed the boundary, leaving only a faint depression in pasture where memory and soil now blend.

In pasture. Depicted as hachured circular enclosure (diam. c. 50m) on 1842 OS 6-inch map, with lime kiln on S bank. Levelled; slight depression noted in area of site. No visible surface trace of lime kiln. Recorded by Broker (1937, 51) as fort in Kiln Field on Denis McSweeney's land, 'levelled possibly by Dr. O' Sullivan, perhaps about 1860'. Recorded by Bowman (1934, 277) as one of three forts (CO030-084---, CO030-085---) in D. MacSweeney's. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork.
