Knocklong holds a sixteenth-metre earthen ring built in two deliberate stages, its flat top still surrounded by a berm and fosse. Farmers cut the western ditch for tillage and a modern fence bit into the north, yet the mound keeps its shape. People may have lived inside, watched the field, or simply marked the land before written memory. The earth remembers the shape even when the story fades.

Earthwork described in 1942-3 as following; 'This consists of a circular flat-topped platform, which is completely surrounded by a berm, and it looks as if the monument was built in two stages and deliberately given this form. It is surrounded by a wide fosse which has been cut into on the north side by a modern fence. The western side of the fosse has been removed by tillage operations in the field. The maximum height of the mound over the fosse-bottom is 8' [2.4m] and the overall diameter is 210' [64m] (O'Kelly 1942-3, 243). Monument clearly visible today on Digital Globe aerial photographs.
