Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Knockbarry holds a lost ringfort where two earth banks once circled a small life. The structure has vanished from the slope, but shadow and memory still trace its shape.
In pasture, on S-facing slope. Depicted as hachured circular enclosure (diam. c. 25m) on 1842 OS 6-inch map. Levelled; ground surface stony in area of site. Bivallate circular enclosure visible as cropmark of banks and fosses in aerial photograph (CASAP), with possible entrance to S. Circular enclosure (CO016-249---) c. 200m to N. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 4: North Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2000). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 14 January 2009
