Knockane holds a thirty-metre earthen ring where a stream still cuts a shallow groove through the base, marking the boundary between human memory and fairy ownership. The bank rises one and a half metres on part of the circle and drops into a scarp elsewhere, forcing anyone who enters to feel the shape before understanding it. Furze and briar choke the interior now, but the line of the ring remains clear enough to suggest that people once drew a circle around life itself and called the excluded part fairy.

In pasture, on N-facing slope of E-W ridge. Circular area (diam. c. 30m) enclosed by earthen bank (int. H 1.4m) E->SW with external fosse (D 1m); scarp (H 1.2m) elsewhere. At base of scarp is V-shaped depression (D 0.5m) cut by stream on its way downhill. Bank incorporated into field fence system; strengthened by stone facing in parts; some large stones embedded in bank both internally and externally may be original. Interior slopes down to N; heavily overgrown with furze bushes and briars. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork.
