Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Kilva

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Kilva once held two earthen ringforts, but both have vanished, leaving no exact mark behind. Power recorded them in 1940, yet even that account cannot point to the spot where they stood. The earth has taken back what people built, erasing walls, gates and every shadow cast inside.
One of two levelled ringforts (CO076-087---) recorded by Power (1940, 25) in this townland. Exact location not known. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 2: East and South Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1994). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 14 January 2009

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
