Castle is a three-storey tower house in Cloyne, preserved only in an 18th-century drawing that shows it standing proud on a street corner with part of its battlements still unbroken. The drawing also reveals a round-headed window, a sloped stone base, and later additions such as a doorway, glazed window and oriel, probably fitted in the early 1700s. It may have stood at the corner of Rock St. and Church St., watching carts, worshippers and market noise pass beneath its ancient walls.

In Cloyne. The appearance of this urban tower house is only known from an 18th-century illustration (Harbison 2000, 46-7) which shows a tower of at least three storeys standing to full height on a street corner. The illustration shows part of the battlements surviving, a single round-headed window light, and a prominent base batter. On the street front on one side is shown a doorway, a glazed window and an oriel window. These latter are all inserted features, probably early 18th century in date. A north sign on the illustration suggests that the tower house stood on the corner of Rock St. and Church St. The above description is derived from 'The Archaeological Inventory of County Cork.
