Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Kilmoreen

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Kilmoreen is a lost ringfort, erased by limestone quarries and hidden beneath overgrowth. The 1841 map still draws its circular embankment, but the ground itself has forgotten the shape. What remains is a bruised patch of waste where human hands took the stone and the field swallowed the memory.
In waste ground, at S end of low rise, in area of outcropping limestone. Monument, depicted as embanked circular enclosure on 1841 OS 6-inch map, is no longer evident. Area of site has been extensively surface quarried for limestone and is now covered by overgrowth. Compiled by: Denis Power Date of upload: 26 August 2011
