What is recorded here

Kilmore holds a circular earthen fort on high ground above the Sall river valley. Two banks surround a central grassy patch, breaking only where causeways cut through the earth. The shape is small enough to walk quickly yet old enough to suggest people valued the view and protection long before modern fields.

On high ground, overlooking Sall river valley to S. Roughly circular area (44.7m N-S; 41m E-W) enclosed by two earthen banks with intervening fosse. Banks stone-faced in parts; inner bank (H 1.1m); outer bank (H 0.6m) incorporated into field fence system to N. Gaps, with causeway to NNE (Wth 8m), stone-faced on S side; to SSE (Wth 4m); to SW (Wth 5m). The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork.
