Killowen holds a vanished ringfort beside the Cill Eoghain well, where children were buried after the fort fell from memory. A public road now cuts through the levelled earth, leaving only waste ground north of the roadway. The fort may have become a burial place, transforming strength into tenderness before disappearing beneath traffic and forgetting.

'Fort with public road going through it, levelled, partly in Pat Sullivan's' (Broker 1937, 44). Located beside holy well (9281), called 'Cill Eoghain' and was used as a burial place for children (9345) (ibid.,25, 34). No visible surface trace; waste ground to N of roadway. A fairy fort or earthen ringfort in Killowen, Muskerry West, likely dates to the early medieval period and is associated with the nearby holy well called Cill Eoghain. The site was historically used as a burial place for children and has connections to local religious and folk traditions.
