What is recorded here

No visible fort remains at Killetragh, though a narrow grassy ridge still marks where its boundary cut across the field. That much is certain. The rest has slipped into legend, with fairies claimed as builders and humans erased from the story. Perhaps people lived there, forgot the fort, then invented fairy work to explain what they could no longer understand. Forgetting does not make the facts disappear; it changes the shape of the story told about them.

In pasture. Depicted as hachured circular raised area (diam. c. 22m) enclosed within small square field (c. 35m x c. 35m) on 1904 and 1937 OS 6-inch maps. Site impossible to survey due to overgrowth and due to rubble dumped in interior and on external bank face. Bank visible to NE enclosing interior. Recorded by Bowman (1934, 332) as double-ramparted fort in Mr Ml O'Flynn's; inner rampart levelled (diam. c. 33yd); outer rampart 'practically levelled'.
