Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Killegar

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Situated on a gentle N-facing slope in pasture. Circular area (diam. 23m) truncated at the E by a laneway. Defined by an earth and stone bank (Wth 2-4.5m; H 0.5-1.2m), with some internal and external revetting (small boulders) surviving at the N and E. Stones and earth from field clearance have been dumped along the S perimeter of the site and may mask the bank. No visible fosse and no definite original entrance. There are foundations of a modern structure (dims. 6m x 4m) in the NE quadrant. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Wicklow' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1997). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 17 December 2008

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
