Killasmeestia holds a broken ring where human ambition met the limit of memory. Its bank still stands, but the entry has vanished, suggesting the fort was built to keep out as much as to keep safe. The fairies may have taken the doorway rather than the stones, leaving a place that resists easy entry and easy forgetting.

A subcircular area (dims c. 38m N-S, c. 26m E-W) defined by an earthen bank (Wth c. 3.4m, int. H c. 0.8m, ext. H c. 1.4m) and external fosse (Wth c. 2.7m) at N and E. No evidence of original entrance. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Laois' (Dublin Stationery Office, 1995) compiled by P.
