Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Killaghteen

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Killaghteen holds a thirty-metre earthen ring now buried under rubbish and creeping vines. The land has turned from pasture to dump, yet the forgotten shape still resists erasure. Human hands may have built it for shelter or ceremony before neglect transformed it into a trash pit. The fortress does not disappear simply because people stopped seeing it as worthy of memory.
In level pasture. Monument, depicted as embanked circular enclosure (diam. c. 30m) on 1924 OS 6-inch map, is now largely obscured by dense overgrowth. Area of site has been used as a dump. Compiled by: Denis Power Date of upload: 26 August 2011

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
