What is recorded here

Isertkelly North holds two forgotten rings, one visible and one erased by fields. The lost fort measured sixty metres across before boundaries cut through it, large enough for a family, a herd and a winter of storms. It vanished so completely that only survey lines remember its shape, yet the land still drops slightly where its bank once stood.

Some 50m to the SE of a rath (GA114-071----). Marked on the OS 6-inch maps as a subcircular enclosure (c. 60m NE-SW; c. 50m NW-SE) cut by a NW-SE running field boundary at N and E. No visible surface trace survives. The cartographic evidence suggests that it was a ringfort, probably a rath. Compiled by: Galway Archaeological Survey, UCG Date of upload: 11 March 2019
