What is recorded here

Fairy forts are misnamed; people built them, lived there and left the earth shaped. In Higginstown a circular bank still rises beside a football ground, half lost to quarrying but easy to imagine when young. Children run where others once kept fire, tended animals and watched the sky. The fort does not need magic to be remarkable because it is a human life saved from forgetting.

In level pasture adjacent to a modern football ground. A report in 1975 (SMR file) indicates that this raised circular area (diam. 29m) was enclosed by a low bank of earth and stone and an external fosse. It is defined by a scarp (H 0.5-1.35m).
