Fairy fort in Gurteenard, County Cork: a circular raised area about 25m across, enclosed by an earthen bank 0.5m high inside and 1.4m outside, set in tillage on an east-facing slope. The interior has become inaccessible under heavy overgrowth, so the fort keeps its shape while withholding its center. People may have lived, hidden or marked territory there before the land was farmed; the bank still stands as a small stubborn boundary between human use and forgotten time.
